Elevators contribute significantly to the electricity consumption of residential buildings, office buildings and commercial enterprises. In this paper, the electricity consumption is investigated using an elevator system and its individual operating states as example. In addition to analyzing and allocating the energy demand, this work examines how the individual operating states can be determined solely on the basis of the power consumption of the elevator. The knowledge gained from this, such as the usage behavior, the travel profile, or load, is determined independently of the elevator control system. A subsequent installation on any system can be easily realized. In this work, the investigated elevator requires a substantial part of the total annual power consumption in standby (>90 %). This shows an enormous potential for energy savings. The individual elevator states, as well as the load, can be detected very well on the basis of the measured total power consumption. The work thus shows exemplary the potential of an intelligent measurement system for the state detection of elevator systems.
In several domains of product design - like medical device design -
risk related use scenarios have to be analyzed in an early stage of design process.
Virtual reviews with users make it possible to get early insights in use problems.
Also, situations that are difficult to imitate in reality can be modeled and simulated
in virtual reality without risking the health of user. Therefore, virtual usability
tests are a promising approach which allow testing different scenarios under
controlled conditions. We chose a sample scenario from medical device design
and compare and evaluate different technical systems which can be used for virtual
usability tests. Aim is to derive guidance for virtual usability tests including
systems that can be used for specific conditions and the qualitative and quantitative
data, which can be collected with these systems. A formative test is performed
to evaluate and compare different systems. Also, a summative test is performed
to evaluate the selected systems. Results show that virtual usability tests
make it possible to test scenarios with users in an early stage and thus to encounter
possible interaction problems. But there are also many additional and new
things to consider compared to normal usability tests, such as checking motion
sickness, maintaining presence and the extensive operation of the technology.
Finally, a proposed method for virtual usability testing is described which also
comprises our equipment recommendations for virtual usability tests.
Operations within a Cyber Physical System (CPS) environment are naturally diverse and the resulting data sets include complex relations between sensors of the shopfloor devices setup, their configuration respectively. As Machine Learn- ing (ML) can increase the success of industrial plants in a variety of cases, like smart controlling, intrusion detection or predictive maintenance, clarifying responsibilities and operations for the whole lifecycle supports evaluating the potentially feasible scenarios. In this work, the need for highly configurable and flexible modules is demonstrated by depicting the complex possibilities of extending simple Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) pipelines with additional data sources, e.g., sensors. In addition to the particular modules core functionality, arbitrary evaluation logic or data structure specific anomaly detection can be integrated into the pipeline. With the creation of audit-trails for all operational modules, automated reports can be generated for increasing the accountability of the different physical devices and the data related processing. The concept is evaluated in the context of the project Collaborative Smart Contracting Platform for digital value-added Networks (KOSMoS), where a sensor is part of an ML pipeline and audit trails are realized using Blockchain (BC) technology.
Evolutionary strategy is increasingly used for optimization in various machine learning problems. It can scale very well, even to high dimensional problems, and its ability to globally self optimize in flexible ways provides new and exciting opportunities when combined with more recent machine learning methods. This paper describes a novel approach for the optimization of models with a data driven evolutionary strategy. The optimization can directly be applied as a preprocessing step and is therefore independent of the machine learning algorithm used. The experimental analysis of six different use cases show that, on average, better results are attained than without evolutionary strategy. Furthermore it is shown, that the best individual models are also achieved with the help of evolutionary strategy. The six different use cases were of different complexity which reinforces the idea that the approach is universal and not depending on specific use cases.
Advertising plays a major role in a company’s marketing activities, especially today, where people are surrounded by a massive number of advertisements in daily life. Therefore, it is important to know how advertising design can be applied in such a way that is able to attract interest and to stand out against competition. When it comes to comprehension of international advertising, cultural aspects should be taken into consideration as well. The aim of this paper is to identify and compare cultural and societal characteristics in advertising design by detailed examination of Japanese and Western culture, predominantly Germany, to accomplish cultural comprehension. Literature research and analysis represent the chosen method in order to achieve this aim. Furthermore, examples of Japanese and German consumer goods advertising shall be analysed and compared. In the course of this paper it was pointed out that Japan has a high number of unique cultural aspects and is different in many aspects compared to Germany. This is observable in advertising design as well.
For thin zinc sheets for construction purposes different welding techniques like tungsten inert gas (TIG), plasma arc (PAW) or micro-friction stir (μFSW) welding can be used. However, low ultimate tensile strength (UTS) often leads
to cracking in the weld even at low loads. The characteristics of laser welding make it particularly suitable for joining thin sheets and low-melting materials. Nevertheless, little is known about the weldability of thin zinc sheets by laser welding and the effects of the basic process parameters of laser power and travel speed on the welding process and the UTS of the weld. In this study,
thin zinc sheets were welded at different laser powers and travel speeds. Tensile testing of the welded joint showed, that the UTS and elongation at break increase with the energy input per unit length, but the welding process became gradually unstable and the susceptibility for welding defects increased. This leaves only a few laser powers and travel speeds that produce good welds with respect to UTS and elongation at break. Under these conditions laser welding is an alternative processing technique to
TIG, PAW and μFSW, but needs further investigation to
improve its stability. To implement laser welding in highly
automated production processes further research is required on laser welding of rolled zinc alloys.

In this work, the comparability of the cooling effect of two Peltier elements from different manufacturers is investigated for cooling the reagent module of a chemiluminescence analyzer. The temperature inside the reagent module is measured and evaluated at several positions. In this study, two different types of verification tests are performed under extreme climatic conditions. On the one hand, in a specific functional “cold start test”, the temperature in the reagent module is measured and evaluated to determine whether the measured temperatures are within the specified temperature range after the specified time. In addition, the performance of the Peltier elements is also evaluated. On the other hand, as an unspecific regression stress test, a “smoke test” is performed that is mainly designed to allow identifying unpredictable events. While processing a long and
complex work list, any deviant system behavior can be detected. Again, the temperature inside the reagent module should not exceed the specified temperature range.
Parylene-C is a multifunctional polymer coating in the coating industry. In medical technology, it is approved for implants due to its biocompatibility. For example, it is used as a coating for electronic components and parts. The problem is that Parylene-C alone is too permeable to body water and the ions that are dissolved in it. Application as a coating material for long-term implants is therefore not possible. The infiltrating water not only corrodes the electronic components, but also reduces the adhesion between the Parylene-C and the coated surface. Therefore, layer systems of metal oxides and polymers are used for encapsulation. The aim of this work is to find out how different layer systems behave in relation to their water vapour transmission. Thicker systems should allow less water vapour to pass through than thinner ones. The task is to find this out using the test method for water vapour transmission barriers and to determine the water vapour transmission rate. It has been proven that in some cases the thicker layers performed worse than the thinner layer systems by a factor of ten. It has been shown that there is a relationship between the base substrate thickness, the thickness of the layer system and their flexibility.

This thesis addresses the relationship between sustainability action and firm competitiveness. Through the analysis of literature and by conducting a survey on consumer demands and preferences, the question whether sustainability action can help companies in the consumer electronics sector gain a competitive advantage is answered.
This thesis comes to the conclusion, that sustainability action can yield many advantages for companies, when executed properly. In general, companies with a strong sustainability performance reduce their production cost, have easier access to capital and labor, show financial and stock performance on the same level or higher than less sustainable companies, reduce stakeholder risk and gain consumer goodwill which can materialize into a competitive advantage. Regarding the consumer electronics sector,
this thesis shows that most consumers would prefer more sustainable products over less sustainable ones and would be willing to pay a price premium. What seems to be a big issue in the consumer electronics market is, that even though companies like Apple already act on the issue of sustainability, they are either doing a bad job or having a hard
time communicating their sustainability initiatives to consumers.
Companies are progressively implementing remote work models to handle the evolving changes in economic, social, and technological environments and facilitate their business operations amidst these. Meaning more teams including multicultural ones are deployed to function on a virtual basis, during the course of their employment, or for a specific project.
Therefore, this thesis focuses on presenting the main challenges that these global virtual teams typically face and the practices to implement as a way to resolve them.
Data were obtained from both a literature study and interviews run with a total of six experts. Four of them being managers and two, employees so that varying perspectives on different organizational levels could be covered.
The findings emphasize that the virtual element significantly impacted communication, coordination, collaboration, and the social aspect. Hence teams and/or management need to dedicate more time to collectively decide on and elaborate a set of common guidelines, best practices, and tools to address this. Whilst maintaining openness and a sense of trust throughout, as incidents or interactions can come up that normally prompt unintended assumptions. For reoccurring issues or generally to ensure the team’s performance and well-being though, companies and/or top management need to regularly follow up and be prepared to intervene.

The term quiet quitting was discussed on social media platforms, but also in a lot of business-related articles. Hence, because of the novelty of this concept, there are hardly specific empirical studies on this concept. In the following thesis an empirical study is done and analysed to answer the research ques-tions if there is any coherence between the concept of quiet quitting and af-fected generations. But beforehand, the term quiet quitting will be defined, as there is not an official definition yet. Furthermore, the issues for the economic environment and companies presented. After this, possible reasons and causes for quiet quitters are collected.
In this thesis, the following object was addressed: Is employee advocacy an influential component in the war for talents and customers? This thesis collaborates with the company Ambassify. Firstly, all relevant subjects and information regarding this topic were discussed in a literature review. Based on this, a research strategy was created, including all aspects necessary to answer the research question. In order to gather this data and then answer the research question a quantitative study, more precisely an online survey was conducted.

This study focuses on whether users perceive Trust as an essential factor in revisiting Saleduck CHDE to maximize profit. Three major components were identified based on academic literature on online customer behaviour and e-commerce: Perceived Aesthetics, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of use. Seven measurable indicators from previous research were used to measure the unobserved components. Also, relevant company data about the German-speaking Switzerland domain were analyzed to outline the relevance of revisiting visitors. According to Google Analytics, the average revisiting visitor generates approximately 4.8 times higher revenues than the average new visitor. The sample consists of 104 students and employed respondents who took part on a five-point Likert scale. The questionnaire also incorporates questions about demographics and target grouping. For assessing the relationship between these three constructs and Trust, Structural Equation Modelling techniques were implemented using IBM SPSS AMOS 28.0. Results show that most participants value Trust highly when using a coupon website. Nevertheless, relationships between Trust and its latent indicators could not be adequately assessed due to suppression effects. Additionally, differences between groups among both measured variables and latent constructs were assessed. The study found that five out of seven indicators in the measurement model significantly reflect the hypothesized components. However, insufficient sample size and a low number of indicators per construct were most likely the reason for the presence of suppression effects. Also, several potential validity issues occurred; the absence of German-speaking respondents from Switzerland, a low number of employed respondents, and a lack of diversity in the samples' age distribution.
Precedent research in human resources management has put forward the challenges of recognizing the appropriate methods to unlock employees’ potential. However, it has been proven that leaders and managers can establish a culture where employees can unlock their potential with the proper understanding of neuroscience and emotional intelligence. This research has shown that cognitive skills, which are necessary for a good job performance, can be further developed due to neuroplasticity. Furthermore, understanding human needs and emotions can help people improve their work and life experience. This research also studies the relationship between employees’ well-being and job performance. Moreover, how emotional intelligence influences the company’s working atmosphere with its staff will be, with the support of literature research, thoroughly investigated and further analysed. Based on findings of various studies, attributes such as empathy, compassion, and kindness play a predominant role and indicate an underlying connection between motivation and job performance. All in all, questions such as how health impacts job performance and how neuroscience research and understanding human emotions shift the approach to motivating people will be further discussed. This research also questions what attributes a company leader should have to build trust with the employees and encourage them to work better. Therefore, this research takes a closer look into the exemplary leadership approach and explains why communication and purpose in the company matter when unlocking human potential. In addition, it highlights the effect of experiencing stress and fear at work and the remarkable impact of positive emotions such as kindness, gratitude, and compassion. Thus, with this understanding, this research acknowledges profoundly the positive influence of having a trustworthy and empathetic leader in the company. It fundamentally shows that working in a healthy and inclusive working culture, where psychological safety is ensured, one can, in fact, unlock the potential of employees to work better and feel good about themselves.

The aim of this paper is to examine the role of packaging design as a strategic marketing tool in the fast-moving consumer goods industry and how this can be done most effectively to appeal to multiple generations. The research question is: how could companies in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry design their packaging to appeal to different generations?
To answer the research question, a quantitative online survey was carried out targeting consumers of generations X, Y, and Z in order to find out what they expect from product packaging. In addition, qualitative expert interviews were conducted to gain a deeper insight into the FMCG market and the role of packaging.
Empirical research showed that packaging is an essential marketing tool when it considers certain conditions, such as general consumer demands and important megatrends. In addition, it was found that neither consumers nor brands place much value on different generational backgrounds in packaging but rather on common values across generations. However, the generational background of the consumers could serve as a guideline for concrete target group definitions.
This shows that packaging is essential for consumers and brands today. On this basis, it is advisable to follow a packaging strategy that combines generations and common consumer values in order to be as competitive as possible in the FMCG market.
The necessity and efficiency of a well-designed onboarding program is undeniable. In addition to the individual design of an onboarding program, the presentation and marketing of the activities in this context differ, with potential indications of onboarding strategies. The thesis aims to investigate the communication of onboarding-relevant content by German companies to detect characteristic indications of two controversial onboarding strategies – the Cold water and the Babysitting approach. In this context, the following research question was established: How do German mid-sized companies present their onboarding activities?
The research is based on communication content, whereby the qualitative content analysis according to Mayring was applied which provides the basis for subsequent analyses investigating linguistic and industrial interrelationships. The study was performed on the 50 MDAX-listed companies as a representative of all German corporations.
The qualitative examination revealed a strong preference towards the Babysitting approach. Here, linkages were identified regarding a segmentation of the onboarding content by target groups based on entry and experience levels, supporting the detailed presentation and implementation of this approach. Also, the address towards potential candidates of these companies was increasingly characterized by a personal 'Du' address. These findings support the associated perception of the employer as employee- oriented and are thus coherent with the characteristics of this approach. Indications of the Cold water method were found more among innovative industries. The analysis also demonstrated the use of existing employees as transmitters regarding onboarding relevant content, with storytelling and blogs emerging as the primary channels of communication of Cold water corporations. Additionally, the communication of general rather than specific onboarding topics supports the characteristics of the Cold Water approach, as the onboarding phases are non-prestructured and the responsibility of a successful integration lies with the new employee.
The aim of this research is to explore social media platform TikTok and how it can be used as a marketing opportunity for brands but at the same time be a challenge for others. A qualitative study has been conducted due to the subjective nature of the topic, as well as a qualitative survey to get better insights of TikTok users’ behaviour. To analyse the data, a content analysis of 4 brands over the time frame of 3 months 01.06.2022 to 25.08.22 has been conducted. The findings can offer researchers and marketers better insights about if and how to implement TikTok into a marketing strategy of a company.
Climate change is currently one of the biggest challenges both in terms of danger to natural habitats, wildlife, and humanity. To tackle climate change, we need to reduce our carbon emissions in a fast and decisive way. This thesis studies one of the potential solutions to do so: green hydrogen. More specifically, its potential development by 2030 in Spain using INKA 4.0 scenario planning software.
Green hydrogen shows to have a wide range of applications, from transport to heating and industry with great potential to decarbonize many sectors. It does come, however with a number of important hurdles mainly related to cost, scalability and technical difficulties that will need to be addressed for it to be successful. With this, 10 descriptors were created generating three scenarios to be studied. The most consistent of them, a successful development of green hydrogen in Spain by 2030 is characterized by having all of its descriptors in a favoring state while the other two have some or all in a hindering state, making its development not successful within the established timeframe. Concluding that due to the great challenge the development of green hydrogen is, its success needs to have all factors supporting it.
Knowledge about consumer buying behavior is of high importance to
companies. Being able to accurately identify customers' willingness to pay
(WTP) helps to optimize one of a company's core goals - to make profit. The
objective of this study is to apply the implicit method NeuroPricing Online to an
example in the tourism sector in order to be able to determine the buying
behavior of consumers and their WTP more precisely. In a bottom-up data
mining approach, individual attitudes towards several price points for a given
product of the vacation resort "Weissenhäuser Strand" were determined by
means of reaction time measurement. We were then able to model curves with
price points per product and their corresponding individual response times per
product. The Feel-Good Price (FGP) as well as the Area under the curve (AUC)
of an individual provide information about a subject's WTP for a given product.
Using independent two-sample t-tests, we found that gender has an influence
on WTP for some products. In addition, we found a difference between subjects
who have previously visited the "Weissenhäuser Strand" and those who have
not for some products. AUC average is larger for those who have already visited
the resort than for those who have not. Furthermore, we examined the factors
age and personality traits for their effect on subjects' purchasing behavior.
However, none of these correlation analyses showed a significant relationship
with FGP or AUC. These results suggest that the "Weissenhäuser Strand"
should specifically advertise to different groups of people in order to increase
profits and skillfully apply the different WTP of some groups as a basis for
pricing. In addition, the study shows that the implicit method of response time
measurement is sufficient for investigations in purchasing behavior in general,
and that NeuroPricing Online has the potential to become a valuable tool for
sophisticated pricing in the future.
