This bachelor thesis is about the current topic welcome culture in Germany. The focus of this work is on foreign skilled employees (both foreign employees with a local contract and Impats) and on companies. However, it also contains a current insight into the welcome culture in politics and society. On the one hand, the research question is to find out what instruments and procedures company can use for an effective integration of their international employees. These instruments cover both internal methods as well as the social integration outside the company. On the other hand, the research question is about the needs and challenges foreign skilled employees have to face with. The theory mainly includes Human Resources instruments, for example the topics “global assignments” or “onboarding” are investigated in detail. The second part is an empirical
study based on qualitative interviews with eight companies and an online questionnaire for the foreign skilled employees. As the interviews were mainly realized in large German companies, the welcome culture and employee retention is already a current topic. Results show that the companies use similar or different instruments for integrating their foreign staff. However, there are slight differences, especially in helping the employees with the social integration. The second questionnaire focused on the needs and desires of the employees from abroad showed that they are satisfied with the help offered by the company. Most of the migrants would like to extend their stay in Germany.
Due to the globalization and talent shortage in Germany, companies are starting to recruit their new employees from abroad. These skilled professionals are relocating from abroad to Germany to live and work, leaving everything behind. Therefore, a successful integration into the company and into the community is essential.
This bachelor thesis is dealing with the different ways of how foreign professionals can be and should be integrated into the German workplace to be considered as successfully integrated. The aim of this thesis is to have a set of suggestions, a roadmap for companies to use as a guide to integrate foreign professionals in Germany.
To gain an inside into the current integration techniques of German companies, that are at the same time recruiting internationally, in-depth interviews have been conducted. On the other hand, to get an inside into the integrated employees minds and their experience with the German integration techniques, an online survey has been executed. Based on the findings, a set of recommendations have been made for companies.
The results of the empirical research have shown that there are already techniques and procedures that are more or less successfully used in integrating foreign professionals, but those techniques are general and not tailored towards the needs of an international. Hence, there is still a need for improvements. Furthermore, personnel and time, both two of the main reason for the missing structure, are scarce.
The Syrian Refugee Crisis in Germany has been lately a constant research topic in many fields; politics, economics, cultural, social and safety aspects etc. popping up in all the news worldwide. Everybody is concerned about it and tackling it from a different point of view. Some believe that it a mutual benefit to both the country (Germany) and the refugees. As Germany benefits a lot form the cheap labor of migrant workers in the different industries. Specially the fast growing industries like the rural ones. Others fear that they will weaken the German culture and economy. And that they are burdens on the national people and will cause many problems.
In this paper two aspects of the challenges facing the Syrian refugees in Germany are discussed: the first is their integration and acculturation with the German society and the second is the challenges facing the refugees in entering the German labor market and case studies of Syrian entrepreneurs who developed their own family businesses in Germany are presented. The interviews were held with Syrian refugees in the state of Baden-Württemberg in 2015/2016 in Arabic language. The groups that were interviewed were in Villingen-Schwenningen and Stuttgart. An analysis of the cases presented along with the findings of the surveys and interviews are presented and finally some recommendations are suggested.
