• The decline in the number of swimming pools is a growing problem, especially in Germany. Consequently, fewer children are allowed the opportunity to learn essential swimming skills, thereby not only impacting their physical health but also raising concerns regarding water safety. In response to this challenge, this study sought to address the issue by further developing an existing tourist attraction for virtual reality snorkeling in swimming pools. By harnessing the power of immersive technologies, we aimed to provide a captivating alternative for individuals of all ages to enjoy aquatic experiences. Through comprehensive usability tests, we meticulously evaluated how users interacted with the virtual underwater world. This iterative process involved scrutinizing the existing solution for potential optimizations, integrating elements of gamification to enhance engagement, and visually tailoring the experience to align seamlessly with the ambiance of the test swimming pool. The results of the usability tests were encouraging, demonstrating that this innovative application has the potential to be an enticing addition to a swimming pool's offerings. Not only does virtual reality snorkeling provide a novel recreational activity, but it also serves to diversify the options available to visitors, thereby increasing their overall satisfaction and acceptance. Moreover, through the identification of optimization potential, we can continuously refine and improve the virtual reality snorkeling experience, making it even more appealing to a broader audience.
