Analysis of systemically important financial institutions

  • This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of systemically important financial institutions, particularly the global systemically important banks, about their performance. At the beginning, it is intended to give the reader an overview of how and why these financial institutions are systemically important for the financial market and how they operate. To provide the reader with an understanding of the financial market, the theoretical background is explained. The reports and analyses of the institutions most important for financial stability are examined and explained. The interconnectedness and the selection criteria for global systemically important banks are discussed. The tasks and the important influence of the central banks are also examined. Regulations and standards are explained, and their influence is determined. This is followed by a descriptive statistics section, which is intended to provide a general overview of the positioning of global systemically important banks. Key figures are analysed for the respective banks. Using a regression analysis, the performance of the systemically important financial institutions examined in terms of the key financial figures is analysed and how these depend on key interest rates and other real economic variables, such as real gross domestic product and the unemployment rate. The data for the analysis of the financial figures of the come from the Refinitiv Eikon Portal, from which the financial data of the Systemically important financial institutions were taken and meaningfully and uniformly processed. The descriptive statistics and the regression analysis are presented to the reader in graphical form and are then analysed and insights are derived from them. This is followed by an evaluation of the results and an evaluation of these, with a subsequent elaboration of the limitations.
