The Role of Financial Controlling in the strategic decision-making process of Global Organizations

  • This thesis examines the strategic decision-making processes within global organizations and examines the role of financial controlling. By integrating a qualitative research approach, this thesis employs expert interviews with financial controllers, to gain in-depth insight into the interplay between financial controlling and strategic decision-making. In addition, the future trends and challenges were included in the research. Strategic decisions are essential for the success and survival of companies in today's business world, especially on a global level. This signifies the importance of the research. The research has shown that global organizations use two models to make strategic decisions, SWOT Analysis and Porter’s Five Forces. The role of financial controlling is crucial for the management board, controlling can be seen as a business partner to the board. Not only by analyzing, monitoring, and providing data, the strategic decisions are made up on their recommendations. Additionally, the role of controlling is evolving due to digitalization and therefore switch in tasks. The profession will not stay the same and organizations as well as financial controllers have to adapt to the evolving role.
